D. Smith to Sarah E. J. Smith and others (Ex'd) THIS DEED made this 24th day of March, 1900 between C. D. Smith party of the first part, Sarah J. E. Smith, his wife, part of the second part, Annie L. Rhodenizer, John L. Smith, Virginia D. Frazier, Mack C. Smith, Robert C. Smith, Charles J. Smith, Sarah J. Watkins, Melvin C. Smith, Maggie E. Smith, Fannie L. Smith, Edgar A. Smith, Gilmer H. Smith, Reana G. Smith, their children, parties of the third part. WITNESSETH: That for and in consideration of natural love and affection the said C. D. Smith hereby transfers grants and conveys with General Warranty the hereinafter described property to his faithful and beloved wife, Sarah J. E. Smith for and during her natural life, with remainder thereafter absolutely and in fee simple forever to Annie L. Rhodenizer, John L. Smith, Virginia A. Frazier, Mack C. Smith, Robert C. Smith, Charles J. Smith, Sarah J. Watkins, Melvin C. Smith, maggie E. Smith, Fannie L. Smith, Edgar A. Smith, Gilmer H. Smith, Reana G. Smith, parties of the third part; the property conveyed by this deed embraces all the property of the said C. D. Smith, real and personal, in Rockbridge County, Va of which he is possessed, or entitled, and in which he has any right, title, or interest, and consists of all his household and kitchen furniture, book accounts, choses in action, stock, tools, and generally all his personal property, and the following real estate in Buffalo District in Rockbridge County, Virginia: 1st All that parcel of land, containing 6 acres 2 roods and 12 poles, conveyed by Daniel Swink and wife to C. D. Smith, by deed dated Jany 29th 1885, recorded in the Rockbridge County Court Clerk's Office in Deed Book YY, p. 45 reference to which is hereby made for a mroe particular description thereof: 2nd. All that parcel of land adjoining the above, containing 5 acres and 139 poles, being a part of the 13 acres and 10 poles, conveyed by John Hogue to J. H. Brown and C. D. Smith, November 30th 1882, by deed recorded in Deed Book WW, p. 361 and released and conveyed to C. D. Smith by J. H. Brown and wife. January 13th 1887, by Deed of Partitition recorded in Deed Book ZZ p. 291, which deeds are hereby referred to for a more full description of said land; and 3rd. All that land purchased by C. D. Smith from F. G. Ruff, by contract of April 22nd 1887, containing 25.80 acres bounded as follows, as per survey and plat made by W. J. Hurlburt, April 29th, 1887: Beginning at a stake corner to C. D. Smith, thence with two of his lines S 47 E 33 1/2 poles down a steep hill to a stake with a mulberry pointer new marked, corner to Lot No. 2, on the north side of Buffalo Creek thence up said creek S 50 3/4 W 13.2 poles to a white oak and dogwood stumps corner to Abram Hotinger, and with his line S 27 1/4 E 83 1/2 poles, crossing said Creek and up a hill, passing a corner to J. H. Liptrap at 77.4 poles, thence with his lines to a black oak with hickory pointers, old marked, on top of the ridge, thence S 53 3/4 E 10 poles up said ridge to chestnut oak and white oak pointers, old marked, on said line, thence five new lines N 65 E 35 1/2 poles to a large chestnut oak and small chestnut and dogwood pointers, new marked, thence N 57 E 17 1/2 poles to a hickory with two chestnut pointers, new marked, on another ridge, thence N 43 1/2 W 108 poles, surface measure, crossing a deep hollow to an oak with hickory, elm and haw bush pointers, new marked, on the south edge of Buffalo Creek at the foot of a steep bank, thence recrossing said Creek S 46 3/4 W 14.8 poles to the stake with mulberry pointers, new marked, a corner to Lot No. 1, - before described.- thence N 40 1/2 W 34 poles to a stake with a chestnut pointer, new marked, a corner on said Ruff's old line, and thence with the same S 43 W 3 1/2 poles the Beginning, which has been fully paid for by said Smith, but for which he has received no deed from said F. G> Ruff. There is hereby reserved on the face of this conveyance a lien for $35.00 on the property hereby conveyed for Greenlee D. Letcher, for legal services to date.
