(Abstract) 10 January 1851 Deed of Trust James Conner of first part, William M. Paxton of second part and Patterson & Gilkeson, A. Patterson and John A. Kinnear of third part. James Conner is justly indebted to said Patterson & Gilkeson in sum of thirty one & 56/100 dollars by a note dated January 10th 1851, also to A. Patterson a balance of an execution against said James Conner & Thompson A. Wright of elevene & 44/100 dollars due January 10th 1851, also to John A. Kinnear the sum of seven dollars by a note dated January 10th 1851 to be paid on the 15th day of July 1851, which debts with legal interest said James Conner is willing to secure. In consideration of one dollar, James Conner in hand paid by the said William M. Paxton is hereby acknowledged, James Conner hath bargained and sold to William M. Paxton the following property: One third of the present crop of wheat growing on the farm of Mrs. Ellen Withrow of the County of Rockbridge and State of Virginia, also one half of the hay made on the meadow of said farm during the year 1851, also one cow and calf in trust. William M. Paxton shall if default be made in the payment of the sums of Thirty one 56/100 dollars to Patterson & Gilkeson, also Eleven & 44/100 dollars due A. Patterson on the execution against James Conner & Thompson A. Wright and seven dollars due John A. Kinnear or any part thereof with interest, shall sell the said property or such part thereof as may be deemed necessary to the highest bidder for cash at public auction after having fixed the time and place of sale at his discretion and given thirty days notice thereof at two or more public places in the County of Rockbridge. Out of the monies arising from such sale, after satisfying the charges thereof, the debtors to be paid. If the whole of the sum as aforesaid with interest shall be full paid and discharged this indenture to be void, else to remain in full force and virtue. James Conner (seal) W. M. Davidson and Martha E. his wife sold to James P. Tolley several tracts, one a portion of 130 acres and the other of 150 acres, for the purchase price of $800.00. This property adjoined the lands of Samuel Logan, and Stuart Taylor. The 150 acre tract was granted to James Davidson by the Commonwealth of Virginia 14 May 1803, the 130 acre tract adjoined Benjamin Logan, and had been granted to said Davidson by the Commonwealth of Virginia 13 Jun 1819, it also adjoined Morgan Russell's house, and cornered Benjamin Logan. The other portion of the 130 acre tract was sold to Charles Campbell and John Gaylor. Tolley also purchased Madison Davidson's interest in a small tract of 12 acres 27 poles, adjoining the above, which was granted to Madison G.
