(Abstract) 2 October 1840 $200.00 95 Acres Peachy H. Sheltman to Christopher Rodecap, both of Rockbridge County, VA. By a "decreed of the Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery for said County, pronounced on the 20th of September 1837 in a cause therin depending in which William Ramsey & others were palintiffs & John Doyle & Robert Doyle were defendants, it was amongst other things decreed & ordered that Peacy H. Sheltman deput for William Paxton sheriff of Rockbridge County thereby appointed a Commissioner for that purpose, should after having advertised the time & place of sale for at least thirty days in some newspaper published in the town of Lexington, & at the courthouse door of Rockbridge County, & at at some public place near the premises proceed on the premises, to sell the land in the Bill mentioned at public auction for ready money to the highest bidder, & make report thereof to court &c. And wheras the said Peachy H. Sheltman deputy as aforesaid, having in pursuance of said decree, advertised the said land for sale in the Lexington Gazette, a newspaper printed in the town of Lexington for 30 days previous, a copy of which notice was for 30 days previous posted on the door of the courthouse of said county and at a public place near the premises, proceeded to sell the said land on the premises at public auction to the highest bidder for cash- at which sale Christopher Rodecap, being the highest bidder, became the buyer, at the price of two hundred dollars, as will appear from a report of said sale filed with the papers of said cause. And whereas by a final decree in said cause, pronounced on the 18th of April 1838, it was amongst other things ordered that, that the said report of sale be confirmed & that P. H. Sheltman, Commissioner as aforesaid do convey to the said Rodecap the said tract of land, by and with special warranty. Now this Indenture witnesseth that the said P. H. Sheltman, Commissioner as aforesaid for & in consideration for the farther consideration of $200 to the said P. H. Sheltman in hand paid by the said Rodecap the recept whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted, bargained & sold & by these presents doth granted bargain & sell unto the said Christopher Rodecap the said tract of land described in the bill as a certain tract of land lying & being in said county of Rockbridge upon the waters of Mill creek, known by the name of the Mill Creek tract & containing 95 acres, and which tract had dedcended to the children & heirs at law of James Ramsay deceased. To Have & to Hold the said described tract of land, together with the appurtenances thereunto unto the said Christopher Rodecap his heirs & assigns forever. And the said P. H.
