(Abstract) 21 February 1843 [Marginal Note: John Cahoon to Alex. M. Cahoon for & c, Exmd]. John Cahoon of first part, Alexander M. Cahoon, trustee of the second part, and Elizabeth A. Cahoon of the third part, all of Rockbridge County, VA. Deed of Trust. John Cahoon is indented to Elizabeth A. Cahoon in the sum of $80.00 due by note with interest. In order to secure the debt, for $1.00 paid to the trustee, John Cahoon hath bargained and sold unto Alexander M. Cahoon the following personal property: Two head of horses, one bay mare, and one black mare with their increase, eleven head of sheep with their increase, four head of hogs, one big plow, one harrow, one bed and furniture, one little wheel, three chairs, one table, pots and oven, two pair plow gears, the crop of tobacco now on land, and the crop of wheat and rye now in the ground. Alexander M. Cahoon is to hold the above mentioned personal property in trust. John Cahoon is is to retain possession of the property and enjoy the same, but as soon as John Cahoon shall fail to pay the money due to Elizabeth A. Cahoon with interest, Alexander M. Cahoon, trustee at the request of Elizabeth A. Cahoon shall sell at auction to the highest bidder, having first given at least two weeks notice by sticking up an advertisement at some tavern or other public place in the neighborhood. Out of the proceeds, Alexander M. Cahoon shall pay to Elizabeth A. Cahoon the principal with interest of her debt and other incidental expenses. The surplus, if any, is to be paid to John Cahoon.
