(Abstract) 10 September 1814 $1.00 ____ Acres Deed of Trust Between Benjamin Bogan and Polly Bogan and James Gold and Joseph Blair. [Residences not stated] Beginning at a poplar hickory and span oak and running N 64, W 58 poles to 2 wh oaks N 25, W to a pine & c &c Being the tract of land on which said Bogan now lives. With all appurtenances. Benjamin Bogan is in debt to Saml. Willson in sum of $120.00 with interest from the 15th of March last which the said Bogan hereby secures to be paid on the first of April next with interest and one dollar seventy five cents for drawing this deed and all costs necessary attending on the sale of said land and recording this deed. It is understood that should the debt with interest and costs not be paid, James Gold and Joseph Blair shall upon twenty days notice proceed to sell the tract of land for cash to the highest bidder and out of the proceeds pay sd. Lee (DC) Andw Reid (CRC) ******************************************************************** Rockbridge County, VA Deed Book J, pp. 160-164. 8 March 1815 per Article of Agreement/ grain/ life 122 Acres Michael Reynolds and Nancy his wife of one part, James Kay and Nancy his wife relict of Dennis Donihoo decd of the second part and Adam Wilhelm of the third part, all of Rockbridge County, VA. Dennis Donihoo entered into an Article of Agreement with the said Michael Reynolds to give possession of his plantation on condition that the said Reynolds shall deliver said Donihoo one hundred and ninety bushels of grain yearly and every year and that at the death of the said Donihoo the above land shall be the sole property of the said Reynolds & his heirs forever, he continuing to furnish to the wife of the said Donihoo the above named quantity of grain and other things yearly as long as she shall live and the said Reynolds is also bound by said Article of Agreement to pay to Dennis Pullin one hundred dollars on the ninth day of March 1815 all which will more fully appear reference being had to the said Article of Agreement itself. Adam Wilhelm binds himself his heirs executors and administrators to [pay to the said Dennis Pullin thirty seven dollars and twenty cents of the said one hundred dollars on the said ninth of March 1815 and also to deliver to Nancy Kay (formerly Nancy Donihoo) yearly and every year so long as she shall live agreeable to sd article on the 9th March sixty bushels of grain of wheat Rye and corn of each an equal part as a part of he one hundred and ninety bushels said Reynolds was bound to deliver. James Kay and Nancy his wife hereby accept of the said Adam Wilhelm for so much as he hereby agrees to fulfill in part of what the said Reynolds was bound for by the said Article of Agreement and also discharges and acquit the said Reynolds for so much, but still considers the land hereby conveyed to the said Wilhelm bound for the faithfull performance of so much as the said Wilhelm undertakes to fulfill and the said Michael Reynolds and wife for and in the same consideration and the sum of one dollar acknowledge have sold by these presents do bargain and sell unto Adam Wilhelm and his heirs a certain tract or parcel of land in the County of Rockbridge containing 122 acres, being part of land of the said Dennis Donihoo, Michael Reynolds in possession per aforesaid Article of Agreement. William Wilson indeted to Samuel Clarke, trustee of BordenÕs representatives in sum of $555.00 by two bills date same as this. One for $277.50 payable 7 Aug next, one due 7 Aug 1816. William Willson and John McCampbell on same day indentured a single bill to Clarke in sum of $595.57 payable 8 June 1816 with interest from 8 June 1815. Secures deed of trust with tract of land containing 333 Acres in Rockbridge conveyed by Samuel Clarke, Trustee if BordenÕs representatives to William Willson the same day. Wm. It being part of one thousand acres tht was granted Samuel Snodgrass a part of which was conveyed to said Alexander which is bounded as follows: Beginning at two hicories by a branch a corner to land formerly surveyed for Robert McCulloch, with line of same; South 65 degrees, West 52 poles to a white oak black oak & hicory on said line, thence a new line dividing Alexanders land; South 30 degrees, east 129 poles to between two chestnut oaks a corner to sd Wm Rolisons line; North 33 degrees, east 8 poles to a dead locust & pointers corner to Wm Rolison & David Rodgers heirs, thence with Rodgers line; North 33 degrees, east 79 poles to a spanish oak on sd line, thence a new line dividing sd Alexanders land; North 51 degrees, West crossing sd branch twice 82 poles to three hiccories & a chestnut oak near the branch; North 23 1/2 degrees, West 7 poles to the beginning. Land with appurtenances.................it is understood and agreed that in case the said land or any part thereof should be taken by a better title than is herby made the said Alexander and his heirs executors or administrators are to refund a proportionable part of the consideration without interest or costs.
