ELISHA HADDON, REVOLUTIONARY PENSION APPLICATION, abstracted, c1833 - Rockbridge Co. VA Elisha Haddon's Revolutionary Pension Application was file in the State of IL, Coles County 6 May 1833. He was aged 73, since 28 July last. Entered the service of US as private soldier, aged 17 as a volunteer of Militia. Private in Co. of Captain James Hall, Regt. of Col. Andrew Lewis Marched from Rockbridge County, Virginia (where he then lived) to the Levels of Greenbrier and then across Gauley Mountain in pursuit of Shawnee Indians, but did not overtake them. Then marched back to Rockbridge. Age 22, while living in Nolichucky River in Green County, NC, volunteer, private in Co. of Rangers commanded by Capt. William Pruett, guarded inhabitants of Green County against hostile Cherokees. Drafted as a private militiaman while living in Green Co., NC. Company commanded by Capt. James Wilson, in Regt. of Col. John Sevier--marched to Kings Mountain, engaged against British & Tories, then marched toward Hillsborough. While a citizen of Washington County, NC, entered service 4 Aug 1787/8, drafted as a private in Capt. James Fanes Co. Marched to HoustonŐs fort within 9 miles of TN River & was then put under command of Major Craig. Then marched to Cittiestown on the Tennessee River which had been burned by Col. Sevier. Only 32 in #, were surrounded by Cherokee Indians to # of 450, who drove the whites into the river & killed 1/2 of them. Wounded 5 & took 1 prisoner. Declarant was one of the wounded, received a rifle ball in the left leg, which broke it. One in the left shoulder & one other in the flesh of the left arm, his horse was shot down by the Indians at the same time. His brother put him on his horse & they made their escape to the fort. Capt. Fane was slain. Declarant laid at fort about 7 weeks, then was moved to Washington Co., NC on a litter.
