JAMES McDOWELL of Virginia militia in the war with Great Britain..... That with his company he was draughted at Rockbridge County in Virginia in about the month of September 1814 for the term of Six months and was honorably discharged at Richmond in Virginia in the month of January following..... He further states that he received a certificate of an honorable discharge and subsequently to the of the bounty land law of September 1850. An itinerant bounty land agent undertook to obtain a warrant for said services and to whom he gave his certificate of discharge to be sent to the Commissioner of pensions as evidence of said services, and since then neither the agent or himself has had intelligence of any thing relative thereto. he therefore now renews or begins the application afresh for a Land warrant, in of the provisions of said act..... He entered the service at Ruhman in Virginia on or about the 26 day of august AD 1814 for the Term of six months and continued in actual service for the Term of three months and Twenty one days and was honorably discharged at the Northern Neck in Virginia on the 20th day of December AD 1814...... State of Illinois, County of Knox } SS: On this 14th day of June, A.D. one thousand eight hundred and Seventy Eight, personally appeared....SARAH McCLAIN, aged 60 years, a resident of Hermon, in the State of Illinois, who....declares she is the widow of THOMAS McCLAIN deceased....that her said husband drafted at Lexington, Va..... She further states that the following is a full description of her said husband at the time of his enlistment, viz: age not known farmer born in Rockbridge Va about 5 ft 11 in or 6 ft light Sandy hair eyes grayish blue, fair complexion. She further states that ......THOMAS McCLAIN had been married previous to SALLY WILSON who died in Gallia Co. Ohio Augst 1841 and that her said husband THOMAS McCLAIN died at McLeain Co, in the State of Illinois, on the 16th day of February, A.D. 1855.....declares that the following have been the places of residence of herself and her said husband since the date of his discharge from the Army, viz: Gallia County Ohio Lawrence Co Ohio & McLeans Co Illinois....hereby appoints SAMUEL WILSON of Herman Ills. her true and lawful attorney.....that her residence is.....Herman, county of Knox, State of Illinois. /s/ SARAH (X) McCLAIN.
