[©1997 All rights reserved.] ******************************************************************** ******************************************************************** MARTHA JANE AUSTIN Oct. 30, 1934 Submitted by: ChazTuna(ChazTuna@aol.com) Mrs. Austin Dies At Home of Daughter Mrs. Martha Jane Austin passed away this morning at 7:30 oÕclock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George W. Matheny at 116 Prospect Street, following a lingering illness. Mrs. Austin was 95 years old and has made her home in Covington for the past thirty-two years where she endeared herself to her many friends. Mrs. Matheny was a native of Rockbridge County, the widow of John Austin, a Confederate soldier, who preceded her to the grave fifty-three years ago. She was a member of the ArnoldÕs Valley Church, Greenlee, Augusta County. Surviving are two daughters and one son, Mrs. George W. Matheny and Mrs. J. E. Leighton, both of Covington and Mr. S. E. Austin of Greenlee, Va. Funeral services will be held from the home Thursday morning at 10 oÕclock conducted by Rev. Ernest L. Honts, of Covington Baptist Church. Interment will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Active-W. W. Jackson, C. F. Catlett, Sam Matheny, Ed Worley, Clarence Bryant and Lloyd Rice. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons. ******************************************************************** Conduct Services For Mrs. Austin Submitted by: ChazTuna(ChazTuna@aol.com) A large gathering of friends and relatives assembled a the home of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Matheny, 116 Prospect Street, this morning at 10 oÕclock for the last rites of Mrs.. Margaret Jane Austin, 95 years old, mother of Mrs. Matheny, who passed away Monday morning. Rev. Ernest L. Honts, of the Covington Baptist Church, conducted the services and interment was made in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Floral tributes were many and beautiful and were a token of the love and esteem in which Mrs. Austin was held. Mrs. AustinÕs grandsons served as honorary pallbearers. ******************************************************************** June 24,1937 MR. S. E. Austin, who dropped dead at the old board mill of the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company early yesterday morning, will be held at 3 oÕclock tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon from the Baptist Church, being conducted by Rev. He was a native of Bedford county but had lived in Rockbridge 45 years. He is survived by his wife, nine children and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at the home Saturday morning, conducted by Rev. S. B. Tucker and the Rev. Mr. Smith, with burial in Hill cemetery in Arnolds Valley. ******************************************************************** 25 Mar 1947 Mrs. Zula L. Austin Dies At Age Of 77 Submitted by: ChazTuna(ChazTuna@aol.com) A funeral service for Mrs. Zula Lee Austin, 77, who died Tuesday, March 25, will be held Thursday afternoon at 4 oÕclock from the chapel of the Loving Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Charles Cooper. The body will remain at the Loving Funeral Home until the funeral. Interment will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Austin was the widow of the late A. W. Austin, who preceded her in death 18 years. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Bessie Simmons, of Longdale, Va., two sons, Bennie B. Austin of Covington., and Henry A. Austin of New Castle, Va., one brother, Reginald Foreman of Portsmouth, Va., and two sisters, Duchess and Rosa Foreman of Portsmouth. Also several grandchildren.
