McCampbell and Elizabeth Porter, 7 Jan 1806. (Transcription) Know all men by these presents that we Wm. W. McCampbell & Jno. Snider are held and firmly bound to John Page[John Page struck through] Wm. H. Cabell Govenor of the Commonwealth of Virginia or his Successors in sum of one Hundred and fifty Dollars to which payment well and truly to be made we bind our selves our heirs executors & c jointly and severally firmly by these presents Witness our hands and seals this 7th day of Jan 1806. The condition of the above obligtion is such that whereas a marriage is shortly intended to be solemnized between the above bound Wm. W. McCampbell & Elizabeth Porter Daughter of Wm Porter Dec'd late of Rockbridg If therefore there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct the same then this obligation to be void otherwise to remain in full force and virtue. John McCalman (says he has his fathers bible showing her born in 1782) Rockbridge County to wit. I John McCalman of the said county do swear that I verily believe my sister Martha McCalman, who is about to intermarry with Robert Petticrew, is past the age of Twenty one years, and give the following reasons for my said belief, to wit “that her age is recorded in my later fathers bible, which shows she was born in the year 1782 & which record I have seen ever since I could read writing, that my age is also set down in said bible, which shows I am now past the age of twenty one years, & my said sister is older than myself, and that she resides in the county aforesaid, I further state that both my parents are deceased Given under my hand, this 23rd Day of July in the year 1806. John McCalman Sworn to & Subscribed before me in dur form the date above, William Anderson, DC, RC Know all men by these presents that we Robert Petticrew and John McCalman are held and firmly bound to William H. Cabale?, Governor of the Commonwealth of virginia or his successors, in the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars to which payment will truly to be made we bind ourselves, oru heirs executors, jointly and severally firmly by these presents.
