Know all men by these presents that we James Johnston Junr John McCorkle & James Johnston Senr are held and firmly bound unto Wm. H. Cabell [Governor] of the commonwealth of Virginia and his successors for the use of the Commonwealth in the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars to which payment well and truly to be made we bind ourselves our heirs Executors & jointly & severally firmly by these presents Witness our hands & seals this 15th Day of December 1807 The Condition of the above Obligtion is such that wereas that is a marriage shortly intended to be solemnized between the above bound James Johnston Junr and Jean Montgomery daughter of Humphrey Mopntgomery deceased If therefore their shall be no lawful cause to obstruct the same then this Obligation to be void Otherwise to remain in full force & virtue. This day John McCorkle made Oath before me in the said office that the register of Jean Montgomery's age, this day produced to me, appears to be the hand writing of her deceased father Humphrey Montgomery, from which register it appears tht the said Jean was born the 3rd day of April 1786, that this affiant was informed by the said Jean's mother before her death, that the said register was correct, and was the hand writing of the said Humphrey.
