MCCALEB AND ELIZABETH ANDERSON 9 MAY 1840 KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, That we: John W. McCaleb and John Anderson are held and firmly bound unto Thomaas W. Gilmer Esquire Governor or Chief Magistrate of Virginia, in the just and full sum of one hundred and fifty dollars, to which payment well and truly to be made to the said Governor and his successors, for the use of the said Commonwealth, we bind ourselves our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Witness our hands and seals this 9th day of May 1840. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas a marriage is shortly intended to be had and solemnized between said John W. McCaleb and Elizabeth Anderson daughter of the above bound John Anderson Now, if there is no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage, then this obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
