James P. Tolley's Will. James P. Tolley made out his will 17 May 1893, devising to his son John A. Tolley all real estate on a branch of Kerrs Creek adjoining William Logan, and others, 250 acres more or less. His son John A. Tolley was to pay his daughter Henrietta Ford $500.00, John A. was to pay grandchildren Henry Baxter Tolley, and Lucy Catherine Tolley, $150.00 each when they reached the age of 21. His granddaughter, Lucy Catherine Tolley was to receive the entire household property and a cow. His will was proven in Court 5 Aug 1895. ************************************************************************** Rockbridge County, VA Will Book 29, p. 284 Samuel Adair's Will aged and infirm but of sound mind and memory All real estate I have to devise was inherited from my brother the late Alexander Adair (containing 192 Acres) by John Adair, Jas. Adair's heirs, Mary McCorkle, Jane Adair, Margaret Lackey's heirs and myself. Making it six equal shares. John Adair purchased the undivided interest in the land of Margaret Lackey's heirs and had that and his own laid off and assigned to him. I purchased the remaining undivided interest to wit: Jane Adair's, Mary McCorkle's and Jas. Adair's heirs making my own 2/3 of the shares and supposed to be 140 Acres. I directed the shares of Mary McCorkle and Jas. Adair's heirs to be deeded to my son Samuel A. Adair to be taken as a devise to him. Remaining two shares or one half of my real estate to my daughter Florence M. Adair and I will that she and my said son Samuel A. Adair shall hold the entire tract and all buildings and appurtenances jointly. To my son J. L. Adair $125.00 to be paid by my said daughter Florence M. Adair in two years after my decease. Having satisfactorily settled with my son John G. Adair I make no devise or bequeath to him. To said son Samuel A. Adair and my said daughter Florence M. Adair, all my household and kitchen furniture and all other personal property of every description. they to pay all my just debts and funeral expenses as soon after my decease as convenient out of their own funds.
