All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Harriet Welch hwelch@ntelos.net August 2, 2006, 9:28 pm Written: June 16, 1801 This Indenture made this sixteenth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and one Between Jacob Berkly and Mary his wife in Rockingham County in the State of Virginia of the one part and Levi Darrow of the same county and state aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said Jacob Berkley and Mary his wife for and in consideration of the sum of sixty pounds current money to the said Jacob Berkley in hand paid by the said Levi Darrow at or before the ensealing and Delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained sold enfeoffed and confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain sell enfeof and confirm unto the said Levi Darrow his heirs and assigns for ever the following tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in Rockingham County on the waters of Daniel James Branch and bounded as follows to wit Beginning at two pines and running thence south eighty seven degrees west fifty poles to a large white oak and hickory xxxx and north sixty five Degrees west foxxxxteen poles to a large white oak corner to Henry Kephart and with his line north sixteen Degrees East one hundred poles crossing a branch to three pines his corner and north sixty- four Degrees west sixty poles to two pines his corner and north sixteen degrees east sixty poles to a white oak and poplar in his line by another Branch and South seventy Degrees East forty six poles crossing said branch to a large white oak and south twenty Degrees East seventy poles crossing said branch to two white oak saplings and south eighty three Degrees East Eighty two poles crossing said Branch to a pine thence south forty Degrees West one hundred and twenty poles to the Beginning – granted by patent to the said Jacob Barkley assignee of Thomas [?] Lewis on or about the thirteenth day of November one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land hereby granted bargained sold or mentioned or intended to be hereby granted bargained and sold and every part and parcels thereof with it and every of its appurtenances unto the said Levi Darrow his heirs and assigns forever to the only proper use and Behoof of the said Levi Darrow his heirs and assigns for ever and the said Jacob Berkley doth hereby grant for him and his heirs that he the said Jacob Berkley and his heirs the said tract or parcel of land hereby granted mentioned or intented [sic] to grant and mentioned and every part and parcel thereof with all and singular at and every of its rights members and appurtenances unto the said Levi Darrow his heirs and assigns against him the said Jacob Berkly and his heirs and against all and every of them and every person and persons whatever will warrant and defend for ever by these presents – In Witness whereof the said Jacob Berkly and Mary his wife hath hereunto set their hand and seals the day and year first above written in presence of Jacob B. Bargley (seal) Mary x Bargly (seal) Rockingham June Court 1801 This Deed of Bargain & sale from Jacob Bargley & Mary his wife of the one part to Levi Darrow of the other part was presented in court and acknowledged by the said Jacob & Mary (she being first privyly [sic] examined as the Law Directs) and ordered to be recorded Teste S.
