John Bowman Land Office Exchange Treasury Warrant - 1809 - Rockingham Co. VA George Wm. Smith Esquire, Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia: To all to whom these presents shall come Greeting: Know Ye, That by virtue of a Land Office Exchange Treasury Warrant, number Two thousand and then, issued the tenth day of February one thousand eight hundred and nine, there is granted by the said Commonwealth, unto John Bowman, a certain Tract or Parcel of Land, containing Three hundred Seventy four acres by survey bearing date the 13th day of September 1809, lying in the county of Rockingham in a place called the forest, and bound as followeth, to wit; Beginning at a white oak standing on the county line & near a corner of Henry Boshang's land, thence S 5 1/2 W 59 poles passing said Boshang's corner & running with his line to a chesnut oak on the same: S 11 E 12 poles to a red oak: S 18 W 50 poles to two whit oaks: thence S 75 W 8 poles to between a leaning black oak & white oaks: S 28 W 34 poles to near a black & white oak grubs N 45 W 116 poles with ___ line to a white oak his corner thence N 48 W 54 poles to two white oaks & a hickory sapling his corner: S 87 W 103 poles to a hickory stump & two white oak saplings his corner: N 43 W 46 poles to near a white oak his & Covils (?) corner: thence with Covils line H 59 W 75 poles to a locust, corner to Orbough's land, and with his lines, N 27 1/2 E 52 poles to a scrub oak his corner N 2 1/2 E 66 poles to a hickory and two red oaks, Kesler's corner: N 26 1/2 E 83 poles to a hickory & two white oaks his corner N 50 1/3 E 12 poles to two hickories & a white oak his corner on the county line: & thence S 50 E 373 poles with said line to the beginning. To have and to hold the said Tract or Parcel of Land with its appurtenances, to the said John Bowman and his heirs for ever. In Witness whereof the said George Wm Smith, Esquire, Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, hath hereunto set his hand, and caused the lesser Seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond, on the Seventeenth day of May in the year of our Lord, One thousand eight hundred and eleven, and of the Commonwealth the thirty fifth.
