Boruck [?] DC Rockingham County to wit The Commonwealth of Virginia [S?] Michael Rook and Jeremiah Busly Gentlemen greeting whereas Mich'l Coger and Mary his wife by this certain indenture of Bargain & Sale bearing Date the [blank] Day of 1783. Did for the Consideration therein mentioned give grant bargain and Sell [? The remainder of page is blank and begins at top of 179] and confirm unto Jacob Spotts and whereas Mary___the wife of said Michael is unable to travel to our said County Court of Rockingham to be Privately Examined apart from her Said husband whether she is willing to relinquish her right of Dower to the said Land in the Deed mentioned as the Law in that case directs therefore know ye that we give Power and authority to you the said Mich'l Rock and Jeremiah Busley to go to the house of the s Michael and there Examine the [s'd] Mary Privately & apart from her said Husband whether she is wiling to relinquish her right of Dower to the Land in the said Deed mentioned & whether she doth the same of her own free will without the force threats or compulsion of her said husband and whether she be willing that her acknowledment shall be recorded with the said Deed and that you certify the same Distinclly to the Justices of our said County Court of Rockingham and that you have then and there the said deed together with this writ which was ordered witness Henry Ewin Clerk of our [s'd ] Court at the Court house the 26th day of May 1783 in the year of the Commonwealth. Hy Ewin By Virtgue of the within writ to us Jas Busly & Mc'l [Rorky?] Directed we did Personaly on the twenty Sixth Day of July 1783 to to the house of the within named Michael Couger did there Privately and apart from her said husband Michal Coager Examined Mary his wife whether she was willing to relinquish her right- of-Dower to the said Land sold by her husband to Jacob Spotts who Declared and acknowledged that she freely and voluntarily relinquished the Same without the force threats or Compulsion of her said husband and that she desired the said Deed together with this Relinquishment of Dower by her made Should be recorded in the county court of Rockingham all which we do hereby Certify to the Justices of the said court given under our hands and seals this 26 Day of twenty Sixth June 1783 in the ____ Jeremiah Busly Michael Rorky Recorded from the Original writing under Act of Assembly approved Nov. 18, 1884 Teste [?]
