Cromer Commissioner as hereinafter mentioned and in his own right and Cecelia F. Cromer his wife, Thomas Atchison and Sarah Jane, his wife, D.H. Cromer and Fanny his wife, John Farneyhough and Hannah M. his wife, Bettie S. Cromer and Siloam A. Cromer of the first part and B.F. Cromer of the second part: Whereas on the __ day of October 1881 it was decreed and ordered by the circuit court of Rockingham County in a certain cause in equity then depending in the said court between D.R. Cromer and others complainants and Bettie S. Cromer and others defendants that the said D.R. Cromer Commissioner appointed by said Court should make sale of a certain tract or piece of land in the said cause mentioned & hereinafter more particularly described, & containing by metes & bounds, as hereinafter set forth, 198 ¼ acres and whereas the said D.R. Cromer Commissioner has with the consent & approval of the heirs at law & children of John Cromer deceased, as shown by their uniting in this conveyance sold said land to B.F. Cromer, also a child & heir at law of said John Cromer at the price of Thirty four dollars per acre payable as hereinafter stated – the said Bettie S. Cromer & Siloam A. Cromer respectively having attained the full legal age of 21 years, since said decree of Oct. 1881 was rendered. Now this deed witnesseth that the said D.R. Cromer commissioner as aforesaid and in his own right and Cecelia F. Cromer his wife Thomas Atchison and Sarah Jane his wife, D.H. Cromer & Fannie his wife, John Farneyhough & Hannah N. his wife Bettie S. Cromer and Siloam A. Cromer children & heirs at law of John Cromer deceased, in consideration of the premises and of the sum of six thousand seven (?) Hundred and forty Dollars & fifty cents paid and payable to the said D.R. Cromer Commissioner as aforesaid by the said B.F. Cromer as follows, to wit, $2746 83 1/3/100 in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged by the said D.R. Cromer Commissioner, and the residue in four equal annual payments from March 25th 1885 with interest thereon from said last mentioned date, for which, four deferred payments the said B.F. Cromer has executed his four bonds each in the sum of $998 41 2/3 payable as aforesaid to the said D.R. Cromer, Commissioner, to secure the payment whereof a lien is hereby expressly retained on the land hereinafter granted do grant and convey to the said B.F. Cromer the following tract or piece of land situate in Rockingham County & bounded as follows to wit, Beginning at a stake Jos. Cromer's corner – thence with his line N 88 ½ E 76 poles to a double white oak on the west side of the Public Road thence with said Road S 37 ½ E 37 poles to a white oak on the East side of the Road, thence S 34 ½ E 49 15/25 poles to a stake on the East side of said Road thence S 15 E 33.10 poles to a stake in the middle of the road Steele's corner – thence with their lines S 24 ¾ W 122 poles to a Rock, thence N 67 ½ W 39 poles to a hickory, thence S 24 W 35 poles to a stake thence N 65 ½ W 125 poles to a locust stump in Messicks line, thence with the same N 25 E 193 poles to the beginning containing 198 ¼ acres – being the same land conveyed to Lucretia Cromer &c by Jesse Rolston pr actor (?) c.t.a. of Jesse Ralston dec'd and as commissioner by his deed bearing date June 8th 1880 & of record in deed book No. 18 page 341 in the clerks office of Rockingham County to which reference is hereby made for all neccessary [sic] particulars. And the said D.R. Cromer Commissioner warrants speccially [sic] the land hereby granted and the other parties of the first part warrants generally the shares and proportions therein owned & by them respectively conveyed or intended to be conveyed. Lineweaver, a notary public for the county of Rockingham in the State of Virginia do certify that D.R. Cromer, Thomas Atchison, D.H. Cromer, John Farneyhough, Bettie S. Cromer, Siloam A. Cromer whose names are signed to the writing above bearing date March 25, 1885 have acknowledged the same before me in my county aforesaid. Given under my hand this 26th day of March, 1885 J.M. Lineweaver N.P. Virginia Rockingham County to wit: I, James M. Lineweaver, a notary public for the county of Rockingham in the State of Virginia do certify that Cecelia F. Cromer wife of D.R. Cromer whose names are signed to the writing above bearing date March 25, 1885 personally appeared before me in the county aforesaid in the State aforesaid and being examined by me privily and apart from her husband, and having the writing aforesaid fully explained to her, she, the said Cecelia F. Cromer acknowledged the said writing to be her act and declared that she had willingly executed the same and does not wish to retract it. Given under my hand this 26 day of March 1885. J.M. Fearneyhough wife of John H. Fearneyhough whose names are signed to the writing hereto annexed bearing date on the 25 day of March, 1885, personally appeared before me in the County aforesaid and being examined by me privily and apart from their husbands and having the writing aforesaid fully explained to them they the said Sarah Jane Atchison, Fannie Cromer and Hannah M. Fearneyhough acknowledged the said writing to be their act, and declared that they had willingly executed the same, and do not wish to retract it. Given under my hand this 26 day of March 1885. J.M. Lineweaver N.P. Virginia: In the Clerks Office of the County Court of Rockingham County. October 5, 1895 This Deed from D.R. Cromer, Commr. & others to B.F.
