G Carpenter & ux to J Bertram Deed of B & Sale, Rockingham, Co., Virginia This Indenture made the 20th day of October 1801 by and between George Carpenter and Elizabeth his wife of the County of Rockingham and state of Virginia of the one part and Julius Bertram of the same County and State as aforesaid of the other Part, Witnesseth that the said George Carpenter and Elizabeth his wife for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred sixty six dollars and sixty six cents to them in hand paid by the said Julius Bertram the receipt whereof they the said George Carpenter and Elizabeth his wife doth hereby acknowledge acquit and discharge him the said Julius Bertram they the said George Carpenter and Elizebeth his wife Hath granted bargained sold ___ and confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain sell alien release and confirm unto the said Julius Bertram his heirs and assigns for ever all that tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the County of Rockingham on a branch of Cub run n Containing by Patent thirty two acres dated the Seventh day of September 1790 granted to and in the name of the aforesaid George Carpenter and bounded as follows to witts. Beginning at two white oaks and a Locas Lavids (?) Corner and South sixty degrees west six poles to tow white oaks his own and Pences Corner, and with Pences line South thirty five degrees west one hundred and seventy poles to a whiteoak by a branch his corner South twenty five degrees East Seventy one poles to a Hiccory on the Top of a hill, North thirty degrees East Seventy Poles to a black oak, North Seventeen degrees East fourteen Poles to a black oak in Lavis line North Seventy degrees East thirty three poles to a black oak in Lavids line and with his line North Sixty seven degrees west thirty eight poles to a black and white oak, North five degrees East, forty __ poles to a black oak his corner North Twenty six degrees East Seventy poles to the Beginning. all of which the said Thirty two acres or Whatever is contained or lays together with the appurtenances thereto belonging or in any wise appurtaining to have and to hold the said tract of land with its appurtances unto the said Julius Bertram and his heirs or assignes for ever to the sole use and behoof of him the said Julius Bertram and his heirs or assignes for ever and the said George Carpenter and Elizabeth his wife and their heirs all and singular the premisses heretofore granted shall and will from time to time and at all times hereafter warrant and for ever defend the said Tract of land with its appurtenances unto the said Julius Bertram and his heirs or assignes for ever against the just claim of any person or persons whatsoever, In witness whereof we the said George Carpetner and Elizabeth his wife hath hereunto set our hands and affixed our seals the day and year first above written Signed Sealed and delivered ) Bnorg (?)
