All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Romaine Stauffer staufferhof@comcast.net July 16, 2010, 1:33 pm Rockingham County Written: March 1804 Recorded: March 1804 1804 William Cravens to Jacob Good Rockingham County, Virginia, Burnt Deed Book 000, pp 225-226, OR Library of Virginia, microfilm roll 2, pp 225-226 Pg 225 This Indenture made in the day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and four between William Cravens and Janny his wife of the County of Rocking ham State of Virginia of the one part, and Jacob Good of the County and State aforesaid of the other part, Witnefseth that the said William Cravens and Janny his wife for and in Consideration of the sum of One Dollar lawful money of Virginia, to them in hand paid by the said Jacob Good the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath granted bar- gained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain, and sell unto the said Jacob Good his heirs and assigns one certain tract or parcel of Land containing One Hundred and twenty acres lying and being in the County afore- said joining the Land of John Brock and others being a part of Five Hundred and thirty nine acres of Land Con- veyed to the said William Cravens in a Deed of Bargain and sale bearing date the 22nd day of May 1794 by Josiah Harrison and Mary his Wife, Joseph Cravens and Mary his wife, Joseph Snap and Margaret his wife and James Cravens Heirs ap- parent at Law of Robert Cravens Deceased which said con- veyance will more fully appear by the Record of the County Court of Rockingham Reference thereunto being had and Bounded as followeth to wit Beginning at a Sickamore a Corner of an old Patent thence with a line of the same and Brock Land north 74 ½ West 174 poles crofsing of the creek to a white oak in said line thence South 20° West 42 Poles to a Stone thence crofsing the tract South 74° East 74 poles to a stone in a Road South 54° East 44 poles to a stake South 32 ½° East 73 ½ poles to the upper corner of the Milkhouse thence Round the three sides of the same South 21 ½° West 24 links of the chain S. 63 ¾° East 23 links North 21 ¼° East 24 Links of the Chain to the N.E. corner of the Milkhouse thence North 25 ½° East 30 pole crofsing the ------------ Gate post near a pine tree thence South 65° East 247 poles to 2 pines in Browns line thence North 42° West 33 poles to a White Oak North 66° West 90 poles to a pine North 7 ½ E. 27 poles to a pine North 53 ½ West 64 poles to the Beginning. Witnefseth it is to be always understood that the said William Cravens doth except the water and it is to be continued in the Ditch where it now runs and the Ditch or race is forever to be considered as the Natural Channel Pg 226 of the Creek and is never to be obstructed by said Good or any other person claiming under him also said Cravens reserves to himself his heirs Exors. or assigns etc. the privilege and liberty of always Mending and Keeping in Repair the said Race and upper Dam and diging of Dirt Clay or Stone which is most convenient for the purpose of Mending of the said ditch or Dam on the upper side of the same together with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining, to Have and to Hold the said One Hundred & twenty acres of Land with its appurtenances unto the said Jacob Good and his heirs and assigns forever to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Jacob Good and his heirs and assigns forever. And the said William Cravens and Janny his Wife for their heirs executors and ad- ministrators, doth covenant with the said Jacob Good and his heirs and assigns, that them the said William Cravens and Janny his wife their heirs, executors and administrators, the said one hundred and twenty acres of Land with its appurtenances unto the said Jacob Good and his heirs and assigns against the claim or claims of them the said William Cravens and Janny his wife their heirs and of all and every person or persons whatsoever, Shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In witness whereof the said William Cravens and Janny his wife hath hereunto set their hands and seals on the day and year first above written. Signed Sealed and Delivered Wm Cravens (Seal) in the presence of Jane Cravens (Seal) Rockingham March Court 1804 This Deed of bargain and Sale from William Cravens and Janny his wife to Jacob Good was presented in Court and acknowledged by the Said William and Janny She being first privily examined as the Law directs and Ordered to be Recorded Test. Additional Comments: This Jacob Good was born about 1740 in Brecknock Twp., Lancaster County, Pa. to Jacob and Susanna Good. He moved to Virginia about 1795.
