Persons or organizations desiring to use this material, must obtain the written consent of the contributor, or the legal representative of the submitter, and contact the listed USGenWeb archivist with proof of this consent. ************************************************************************ Contributed by Ranette Bell tdbell@erols.com *********************************************************************** The Daily News Record, Harrisonburg, VA Chief Fultz of Woodstock, Dies Harrisonburg Native Will Be Buried in Woodbine _______________ Woodstock, Jan 20 -- Chief Police William Lenwood Fultz, 46, a native of Harrisonburg and head of the police department here, sine 1942 died at 11:45 today at the Cora Miller Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since suffering a heart attack early in January. A son of Mrs. Sallie Fultz and the late William Franklin Fultz of Harrisonburg, the policeman was born in Harrisonburg on January 11, 1902 and spent the early part of his life in that community. His father was police chief in Harrisonburg. While in Harrisonburg he was in the plumbing business for nine years before going to Franklin, W. Va. where he began his police work. In February of 1942 he came here to accept the position as Chief of Police and had served in that capacity in a faithful manner until stricken here early this month. From 1919 to 1923 Mr. Fultz served an enlistment in the U.S. Navy. He was an active member of the Woodstock Presbyterian Church and a member of the United Commercial Travelers. In 1924, he married Miss Mary Gangewer, who survives. He also is survived by his mother, Mrs. William Fultz, of Harrisonburg; two daughters, Miss Ethelyn Fultz and Miss Norma Jean Fultz, both at home; one brother, Frank Fultz, Lancaster, Pa. and four sisters, Mrs. R. B. Fey, Cumberland, MD; Mrs. Thomas Judd, of Harrisonburg, and Mrs. J. L. Lewis, Statesville, N.C. and Mrs. W.A. Evans, Harrisonburg. Funeral arrangements had not been completed here tonight but the funeral will be conducted from the Dellinger Funeral Chapel here and burial will be in Woodbine Cemetery in Harrisonburg. The Rev. L. B. Gibbs, assisted by the Rev. D. L. Beard and the Rev. E. B. Wolford will conduct the services. Active pallbearers will be, J. C. Morris, George Lathan, Roy Tremble, Ray McCormick, Guy Emswiler, J. W. Preston. Honorary pallbearers will be Herbert Trotter, John George Clower, W. P. Whitmore, J. V. Bauserman, William H. Logan, R. S. Wright, Jr., Dr. Roy C. Fravel, Dr. Harold W. Miller, Jess D. Funkhouser, Earle Clark, Simon Winder, Aubrey Marshall, Clarence Kibler, Thomas H. Fravel, Oscar Sheetz, Earl Williams, Thomas Solenberger, R . J. Clower, and Luther Bauserman. The body will remain at the Dellinger Funeral Chapel here in Woodstock until the hour of the funeral.
