M. Wellman Dead. Former Harrisonburg Resident Expires in Emporia, Kansas ARTICLE: News has been received here of the death in Emporia, Kansas, on February 14 of James Madison Wellman, who will be remembered by many in Harrisonburg as having conducted a barbershop here at one time. He was 72 years old and had been in failing health for about a year. Mr. Wellman was born at Lyneborough, N. H., September 30, 1835. He enlisted in Company G., Second New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry and was discharged January 20, 1863, on account of disability. After the war he settled at Winchester, Va., where in 1868 he married Miss Laura Virginia Sloat. Later Mr. and Mrs. Wellman moved to Harrisonburg, where their two children Perley C. and Mrs. Jennis Darr, were born. In April, 1881, the family moved to Emporia, where they have since lived. Besides a wife and two children, Mr. Wellman leaves two brothers and two sisters in New Hampshire.
