Widow of Former Circuit Clerk of Rockingham. Died Monday in Staunton. ARTICLE: Bridgewater, Va. Feb. 8—The remains of Mrs. Mattie V. Black, who died in Staunton the first of the week, were taken through here on Tuesday to the Mossy Creek cemetery for burial that afternoon. The burial service was conducted by Rev. H. A. Brown of this place. Mrs. Black was the widow of Newton Black, who many years ago was clerk of the Circuit Court of Rockingham County. She was the daughter of the late Alexander Newman, of Ottobine, and is survived by one brother—W. A. Newman, and three sisters—Mrs. Jos. Crist, Mrs. Jas. R. Dice and Mrs. J. B. Harnsbarger, of the Ottobine neighborhood. She was about 65 years of age.
