Wife of Lewis G. Powell Falls Victim to Pneumonia. ARTICLE: Mrs. Polly Ann Powell, wife of Lewis G. Powell, died at half-past 10 o’clock Monday night at the home of her son, Lewis G. Powell, Jr., near New Erection. Her death followed an illness of several weeks of pneumonia, with complications. Mrs. Powell’s maiden name was Berry. She was born on Dry River, near Lilly, May 5, 1836, and was reared in that locality. She was at the time of her death, and for many years had been a consistent member of the Presbyterian church. She is survived by her husband, two sons—Henry J. Powell, Concord, Tenn.; and Lewis G. Powell, of New Erection; and three daughters—Mrs. Mariah J. Brunk, Elida, Ohio; Mrs. Mary E. Wenger, Augusta County; and Mrs. Margaret S. Good, of this county. She also leaves three brothers—William Berry, of near Pleasant Valley; Chapman and David Berry, of near Cherry Grove; and two sisters—Miss Maggie Berry and Mrs. Jane Jenkins. The funeral will be held at 11 o’clock this morning from Cook’s Creek (New Erection) Presbyterian church. The services will be conducted by Rev. John Ruff assisted by Rev. (unreadable first name) S. Heatwole.
