ARTICLE: Solomon Dean died shortly after 10 o’clock Wednesday night at his home in the Blue Ridge, several miles east of Elkton. His death was due to grippe and the infirmities of old age. He was seventy years old. Surviving him are three sons: Reuben, Asberry and Jesse and four daughters. The daughters are all married. The funeral will be held from the family residence at 11 o’clock this morning. Rev. H. S. Coe, of the Methodist church, of which Mr. Dean was a member, will conduct the services. Interment will be made in the Dean family burying ground. SOURCE: Harrisonburg Daily News, Harrisonburg, Virginia (Friday, January 29, 1909) HEADLINE: Solomon Dean's Will Probated ARTICLE: The will of Solomon Dean, who died last week at his home in the Blue Ridge, a few miles east of Elkton, was admitted to probate yesterday after being proven by the oaths of Eugene and Wardy Shifflett the subscribing witnesses. Mark Haney and Marion Eppard qualified as executors, giving bond in the penalty of $2,000, with S. A. Dean and E. M. Eppard as surities, each in the sum of $1,000. Stephen Hensley, D. P. Dean, Wesley Meadows and Samuel J. Breeden were named as appraisers.
