Father in Law of Rev. G. E. Shuey—Native of Germany. ARTICLE: Theodore Hoppe died at the home of his son-in-law, Rev. Geo. E. Shuey in Dayton at 12 o’clock yesterday. Mr. Hoppe was born in Raden, West Phalia, Germany August 12, 1832. He was a son of Lieut. Frederick William Hoppe, and Doris von Bruning. He came to this country in 1852 and was engaged in the mercantile business in Richmond, with his brother, Albert Hoppe, now deceased. In 1856 Mr. Hoppe married Miss Elsie Bodeker, daughter of Dr. Henry Bodeker, Surgeon in the German navy , and Sophia Epmier, also a sister of Hon. Augustus Bodeker of the well known Bodeker family of Richmond. After the death of his wife, he retired from active business, and made his home with his only daughter, Mrs. Geo. E. Shuey. Mr. Hoppe was an active member in the Lutheran church in Richmond, and for many years was an elder there. He was a staunch democrat, and Confederate veteran, and while of German birth, he was always a loyal American citizen. Mr. Hoppe is the last member of his family, and is survived by his two children, C. F. Hoppe, of Louisville, Ky., and Mrs. Geo. E. Shuey, of Dayton. Mr. Hoppe was a devoted and loving father and will be sadly missed not only by the above mentioned, but by his grandchildren to whom he was so devoted. The arrangements for the funeral have not been made.
