Jacob Spader Senr. Will - 1828- Rockingham Co., VA In the name of God_Amen!_ I Jacob Spader of the county of Rockingham & State of Virginia, being of sound mind and memory, recollecting that is appointed for all men once to die_ to make this my last will and Testament_In manner & form following_To wit: First: I give unto my beloved wife Margaret-all my real & personal estate, to be held and occupied by her during her natural life, as I have heretofore held and occupied the same; except that when any of my children shall get married,(provided they have her consent) I will that she pay over, or put into their hands at such marriage such sum or sums as I put into the hands or paid over to my daughter Mary - (who intermarried with John Baker), after her marriage - and if my said wife shall at any time think the Estate so in her hands troublesome, from its increase or otherwise, she has my approbation to sell off such part thereof as she may think proper, by reserving in her hands or purchasing at the sale a competency for her own use - and the residue of the proceeds thereof I will to be divided equally among my children; to wit: Catherine, Jacob, Mary Elizabeth, Susanna, and Christina, at the death of my said wife - and also I will, that whatever of my estate may remain undisposed of at the death of my said wife, either real or personal, be equally divided between them, except that as I have already provided for my son Jacob, I do not will him any part of my real estate - which real estate is only intended to descend to my above named five daughters; Catherine, Mary, Elizabeth, Susanna, and Christina to them and their heirs forever; subject however, to the following conditions, so far as respects my daughter Christina alone and her family. That is to say: whereas the conduct of William Keller the the husband of my said daughter Christina, is such that I have reason to believe he would very soon squander away any estate placed in his power, it is therefore not my will that he shall obtain any control over any part of my estate whatever: But I will the equal dividend or one fifth part above devised to her to remain in the hands of my Executors or such confidential person or persons as they may select, for the maintenance of my said daughter Christina and her children, after deducting therefrom the sum of Eighty Eight Dollars, which is the amount including the interest, which I have advanced in cash for said Keller - and whatever sum there may remain of my said daughter Christina's equal fifth part, at her death I will the same to be equally divided between her children still withholding from the said William Keller all control or management of any part thereof. Lastly - I do hereby nominate and appoint my said beloved wife, Margaret Spader, Executrix, and my above named son Jacob Spader, Executor, of this my last will and Testament - with full power to sell and convey my real estate agreeably to the provisions above named, hereby revoking all former wills by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 6th day of November in the year of our Lord 1828. Jacob Spader Sen.
