Ray HURON, Ohio -- Carl Tommy (Shotgun) Ray, 70, died Sunday evening, Nov. 17, 2002, at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born Jan. 7, 1932, in Swords Creek, Va. He had resided the past 36 years in Huron, coming from Coeburn, Va. He was employed at the Ford Motor Company, Lorain, Ohio, for 28 years as a paint sprayer, retiring in 1995. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid hunter and trout fisherman. He was a member of the Bow and Barrow Archery Club, the National Wild Turkey Federation, the National Rifle Association and the American Trapshooting Association. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 2000. He loved teaching his sons and grandsons about hunting and he enjoyed attending auctions and garage sales. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Dorlis (Hill) Ray; sons, Steven and wife Mary of Franklin, Tenn., Robert and wife Connie of Louisville, Ky., and Timothy of Huron; daughters, Mrs. Sam (Teresa) Kukasky, Mayer, Ariz., Mrs. Rene (Donna) Faires of Black Canyon City, Ariz., and Mrs. Jerry (Pamela) Garwood of Berlin Heights, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Frank (Shirley) Phillips of Swords Creek; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son at birth; his parents, Hugh and Bertha (Rose) Ray; brothers, Sherman Ray and Ralph Ray; and a grandson, Steven Ray II. Friends may call Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hinman-Tanner Funeral Home, 38 South St., Berlin Heights, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dave Snyder of Calvary Temple, Sandusky, officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Stein Hospice. The remains will be transferred to Meade's Chapel in Herald, Va., where friends may call from 1-3 p.m. Friday followed by burial in Edwards Cemetery, Sandy Ridge. Hinman-Tanner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
