Born July 8, 1928, in Russell County, a daughter of the late Hobert and Maxie Tate Johnson, she was a member of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a sister, Dana Vicars; and a brother, Billy Johnson. Survivors include her husband, Rev. Carlyle Carter; three daughters and sons-in- law, Barbara and Larry Snead, Lebanon, Carla Sue and Ron Rasnake, Lynchburg, Va., and Karen and T.J. Salyers, Portsmouth, Va.; three grandchildren, Christopher Snead and Marissa Snead, both of Lebanon, and Jarrod Rasnake, Lynchburg, Va.; a sister, Judy Turner, San Diego, Calif.; and a brother, Sam Johnson, Bryan, Ohio. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Bob Steele, Thelmer Wallace Jr. and the Rev. Donnie Musick officiating. Entombment will follow in the Memorial Chapel Mausoleum in Ketron Memorial Gardens. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Mark Griffith, John Griffith, Roger Carter, Ronnie Dye, George Lasley and Ray Meade. The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at the funeral home. Combs Funeral Service is serving the Carter family.
