Bristol Herald Courier Saturday, January 18, 2003 Ruth S. Garrett LEBANON -- Ruth Ann Snead Garrett, 71, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at her home. Born Nov. 22, 1931, in Lebanon, she was a daughter of the late William Deathridge Snead and Mary Lou Plaster Snead. She was the widow of James Garfield (J.G.) Garrett Jr. She was a lifelong member of the Bethel Baptist Church where she served as secretary-treasurer for many years. She was formerly employed by Dr. W.C. Elliott at Lebanon General Hospital and by the Virginia Department of Transportation. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Robert Linton Dawson Sr. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, James Garfield (Jim) Garrett III and wife Patricia, Pickerington, Ohio, and William Snead (Bill) Garrett and wife Tammy, Lebanon; four grandchildren, William Snead Garrett Jr., James Garfield Garrett IV, Ann Caitlin Garrett and Quentin Lee Garrett; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Shirley S. Griffith and husband, A.G. Griffith Jr. and Mary Lou Dawson, all of Lebanon; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph Snead and wife Myrtle and James R. Snead and wife Junella, all of Lebanon; brother-in-law, Fred Garrett and wife Beulah, Lebanon; sister-in-law, Dorothy Garrett, Johnson City; also five nieces; and eight nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Rick Meade, the Rev. Larry Burton and the Rev. Tom Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Fred C. Garrett II, Robert L. (Bob) Dawson, William Timothy (Tim) Dawson, R.D. Snead, James W. Snead, Tom Snead and John G. Griffith. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of the Bethel Baptist Church and members of the Lebanon Volunteer Fire Department. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, P.O. Box 425, Lebanon, VA 24266, Lebanon Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
