Laforce LEBANON -- Lois Chafin Laforce, 68, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, in the Grace Health Care Center in Abingdon after a long battle with cancer. A native of Russell County, she was a longtime member of the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, having taught Sunday School, Bible School, sang in the choir and played the keyboard. For many years, she wrote a column for The Lebanon News entitled "Lines from Lois". Prior to that she retired from the federal government in the early eighties from administration and counseling. An avid gardener, nature love and craftsperson, she also loved developing new recipes. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mae C. Chafin. Survivors include her husband, James Mack Laforce; also several cousins. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Turner and the Rev. Leonard Ferguson officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, in the Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood. Those attending should meet at the funeral home by 10:15 a.m. to go to the cemetery in procession. Pallbearers will be Don Chafin, Dean Chafin, Rick Hackney, Mark Hackney, Jim Fields, Roger Meade and Woody Hackney. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Guy Tillinghast, Jeff Owen, Dr. Hughes Melton and Elmer Saddler. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and at the home of Woody and Myrtle Hackney in Carbo at other times. Combs Funeral Service is serving the Laforce family.
