He was a retired employee of the Clinchfield Coal Company, a member of the UMWA District 28, and attended the Temple Baptist Church, Abingdon. Mr. Tickles was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Foster Tickles; three sons, Gary Tickles of Blountville, Larry Tickles of Tampa, Fla., and Eddie Tickles of Greeneville, Tenn.; three daughters, Debra Tickles of Grimsley, Tenn., Sherry Hall of Ellenboro, N.C., and Robin Rice of Clarkrange, Tenn.; a brother, Jack Tickles of Coeburn; a sister, Nell Ramey of Coeburn; nine grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday in the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Les Ritchie and Rev. John Price officiating. Burial will follow in the Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood. The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Thursday at the Sturgill Funeral Home, Coeburn. Sturgill Funeral Homes, Coeburn, in charge of arrangements.
