Born Oct. 31, 1925, in Russell County, Va., he was a son of the late Everett Barry and Daisy Price Yates. He was a retired longshoreman and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one stepson, Barry Goble, and four brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife, Doris Sigmon Yates of the home; four daughters: Peggy Combs, Patsy Combs and Kathy Hubbard, all of Cleveland, Va.; and Christine Henderson of Jacksonville, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Polly Douglas of Jacksonville; three stepsons: Allen Goble and Johnny Goble of Jacksonville; and Ricky Goble of White Oak, Ga.; three brothers: Clovis Yates of Kingsport; and Hubert Yates and Clarence Yates, both of Honaker; five sisters: Gaynell Stump, Margie Honaker and Charlene Deel, all of Honaker; Alice Kestner of Kingsport; and Ann Combow of Bristol Tennessee; seven grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Jeff Stevens and Rev. Roy Lee Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Combs Family Cemetery in Honaker.
