Benjamin, 1811-1884, was born Aug., 6, 1811 in Danish West Indies then under temporary British occupation in the Napolonic wars. Now U. S owned Virgin Islands. (part of West Indies as Columbus named it.) Prominent in the Cabinet of the Confederate States of America (1861-1865). A confidant of Jefferson Davis, CSA. (President of the Confederate States). He served as Attorney General, Secretary of War, Secretary of State. He wrote "A Treatise on the Law of Sale of Personal Property," known as "Benjamin on Sales," which is still a legal classic. At the end of the War, Judah made His way to Key West, Fl.,(90 miles from Cuba, when General Robert E. Lee, CSA, surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant, USA. Judah took a ship to England renewing His British citizenship.He became a leader of the English Bar. He died in Paris, France May 6, 1884, where His wife and Child lived. Buried in Paris in an undistinguished grave. In 1938, the Daughters of the Confederacy erected a plaque on His grave recognizing His service to Mankind. His career is one of the most remarkable examples in modern history of successful struggle against adversity. John B.
