[The following extracts from the record in England were made at the instance of Mr. Charles P. Keith, author of the "Ancestry of Benjamin Harrison", &c.] 167 - Lloyd - Will of Elizabeth Lightfoot(1). I Elizabeth Lightfoot of London, widow. My body to be buried as near to my husband as conveniently may be. The poor of the parish of St. Sepulchres London L5. To my son John Lightfoot L40 a year for life. Whereas my son Francis borrowed L50 of my son John: I now direct that the said sum be paid by my executors. To my dau. Webb and to my dau. Crosyer L10 each. To my dau. Elizabeth L200. I forgive my son Francis L150 which he owes me. To my Godsons charles son of my son Francis, William son of my son William, John son of my son Richard deceased and John son of my son Robert L10 each. To my Godson Charles Lightfoot L40. To John Lightfoot son of __________________________________________ (1) Elizabeth Lightfoot was hte daughter of Francis Phelips or Phillips, Esq., and wife of John Lightfoot Esq., of Gray's Inn, who was born in 1598 and died before 1649; leaving John, Francis, George, William, Richard, Edmund, Philip, Robert, Mary, Anne, Jane, Elizabeth, and Rebecca. Page 260. my son Edmund L50. To my brother and sisters John Phillips Esq., Anne Dare the wife of Leonard Dare Esq., and Philippa wife of William Rosewell Esq. 40s each. I will that my executor pay to my grandson, John Lightfoot, son of my said son John during his father's life L10 a year, and after his father's death L40 a year. And if my said executor with the advise of my son in law, John Crosyer shall think fit to advance any sum of money (not exceuding L500) for the settling of my said grandson John: then the said yearly payments of L10 & L40 to cease. To my son in law Edward Leigh(1) Esq. L10. I ordain my son William Lightfoot my executor. Witnesses: George Aldrich, Mary Walker, William Vincent. Codicil dated 22 Nov. 1681. Whereas by my will I have given to my dau. Eliz. L200: now forasmuch as since that time she has married Mr John turner to whom I have paid L500: I hereby revoke the said bequest. To my dau. Scott late wife of my son Richard L10. To my daughter Turner's daughter one of my silver plates. My household goods at Ickenham I give to my dau. Crosyer. Witnesses: George Day, Judith George, Elizabeth Haids. Proved at London 24 December 1686. 9 Noel -- Will of William Lightfoot(2). The 28th day of August 1695 I William Lightfoot of Hackney in co. Midd. gent, I give my body to be buried on the northside of my late dear wife's gravestone in the Guildhall Chapel in London. I leave 3 sons and 1 daughter: William, John, Robert and Elizabeth "all dutiful and obedient children". To my dau. Eliz. L1,000. To my son Robert all my right & title in my houses in Basinghall St., London. To my son William I give all my right in the Manor of Bidston in co. Chester, which I hold in trust for myself and the executors of John Sayer Esq., deceased. To my brothers & sisters, & to my brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law a ring each. To the poor of St. Michaels Bassishaw, St. John at Hackney and Tuddington 40s each. I make my son William Lightfoot executor. Proved at London 23 January 1699. ____________________________________________ (1) In York Co. Virginia Records, Capt. Roger Jones is mentioned as attorney for Philip Lightfoot, admr, of Capt. Francis Leigh (March 24, 1684/5). The son of Capt. Roger Jones was Thomas Jones, and a Thomas Jones was cousin of the Lightfoots. Capt. Francis Leigh may have received his name from Francis Phelips, Esq. (2) William Lightfoot, son of John and Elizabeth Lightfoot, entered Gray's Inn, October 24, 1653. He probably held some place in the Lord Mayor of London's office, as he authenticates certain witnesses to a deed recorded in York county, Va., in 1680. Page 261. 33 Ent -- Will of Philip Lightfoot. The 17th day of June 1688 I Philip Lightfoote of the city of Norwich, gent., I give to Benjamin Hayken son of Thomas Hayken of London in co. Norfolk L20. The rest of my goods I give to my wife Anne Lightfoote whom I make sole executrix. Witnesses: Henry Smith, Mark Younger, Tho: Cooke. Proved at London 4 March 1688. 226 Bond - Will of charles Lightfoot(1). The 5th day of October, 1696 I Charles LIghtfoott, gent., now purser of H. M. Ship the Rupert To my sister Frances Lightfoot L50. 'if she ever come into England and demands it not elce." The reside of my goods & personal estate I give to my sister Lucy the now wife of Francis Whitton citizen and Merchant Tailor, and I make her my sole executrix. Witnesses: Diana Gaddis, Nathaniel Harford, John Suffield. Proved at London 18 November 1696. 94 Degge -- Will of Robert Lightfoot. The 7th day of June 1693 I Robert Lightfoote of the parish of St. Giles's Cripplegate in co. Midd., gunner., do make my wife Anne Lightfoote my lawful attorney, to receive all prize money, wages, &c. due to me, and I also make her my sole executrix. Witnesses: John Boulton, John Aynge. Proved at London 9 June 1703. Administration Act Books. On the 7th day of March 1687 here issued a commission to William Lightfoote "Patruo" of John & Philip Lightfoot living in parts beyond the seas, sons of John Lightfoote(2) widower, who lately died at Surinam in the West Indies, to administer the goods, etc. of the said deceased, during the absence & for the use of the said children. On the 8th day of April 1695 a commission to Lucy Whitton alias Lightfoot (wife of Francis Whitton) sister of Francis Lightfoote who died lately in the Royal ship the Nonsuch, bachelor, &c. ___________________________________________________________ (1) Charles Lightfoot, as shown by the will of Mrs. Elizabeth Lightfoot, was son of her son Francis Lightfoot. (2) Who can this "John Lightfoot, widower", have been, who is mentioned as having two sons, John and Philip, "in parts beyond the seas"? It is probable that John Lightfoot of the council was one of the sons, and the nephew of Philip Lightfoot, of Sandy Point, and not the brother. Will not some of those interested communicate with our consul at Surinam, and ascertain if there is a will on record there of John Lightfoot in 1687? Page 262. On the 9th day of June 1707 a commission to Margaret Lightfoot relict of William Lightfoot late of the parish of St. Giles in the Fields in co. Midd, but who died in the merchant ship the Blessing of Livington [sic], &c. On the 20th day of Sept. 1711 a commission to Sarah Lightfoot relict of John Lightfoot late of the parish of St. Margarets, Westminster, in co. Midd, &c. On the 16th day of September 1713 a commission to John Lightfoot son of Edmund Lightfoot late of the parish of St. Sepulchre's London, widower, &c. On the 5th day of April, 1715, a commission to Joseph Stanwix, gent. attorney of Elizabeth Nicholson widow, sister and next of kin of Thomas Lightfoot late of the City of Carlisle in co. Cumberland, bachelor, to administer the goods, &c., of the said deceased, to the use of the said Elizabeth, now living in co. Cumberland.
