She was native of Scott County and had worked in the textile lab at the Tennessee Eastman. She was preceded in death by parents, Bee Noah Darnell and Sally Elizabeth Starnes Darnell; sister, Helen Faye Gilliam; and half brother, Coy Starnes. Surviving are husband, Daniel H. Smith, Kingsport; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Ronnie Vicars, Hiltons, Va., and Kathy and Mark Williams, Kingsport; grandchildren, Chris Williams, Kingsport, Jason Woods, Charlotte, N.C., and Rebecca Woods, Hiltons, Va.; great-grandchildren, Kindall Williams and Katelyn Williams; and brother, Fred Darnell, Gate City. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Scott County Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Will Shewey and Rev. Buddy Legg officiating. Music by Dale Jett, Oscar Harris and Steve Davidson. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Holston View Cemetery. Friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. to go to the cemetery. Scott County Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
