Jackson, Va. about 1779, was reared and received an education peculiar to primitive times, d. it was thought, in 1815, of army fever contracted while a soldier in the War of 1812; m. first, Christina RHINEHART, of same county as above, d. leaving one son Moses who went to Ohio when a young man. No record of him. Second, m. Catherine DEISINGER, dau. of Peter, who survived him without issue, and later married David's brother, Daniel. p.714 Daniel FUNKHOUSER, the eighth child of Jacob, b on Mill Creek, near Mt. Jackson, Shenandoah Co., Va., about 1795; grew to adult life on his father's farm and had the same educational advantages as other members of the family in those pioneer days. He improved his opportunities well and developed those sturdy, industrious and frugal traits which marked him in after life. He m. his brother David's widow, MRS. CATHERINE FUNKHOUSER, nee Deisinger, dau. of Peter, in violation of an arbitrary law which was afterwards rescinded. Fearing indictment and prosecution in the courts of VA. for this, he went West about 1820, to a country far more pioneer than the one he left, locating near Circleville, Pickaway Co., Ohio, where he died in 1829 and was survived by his widow and four ch..
