Shenandoah County This old graveyard was in such bad condition that it could not be entered. High briars, all kinds of under-growth, fallen trees from edge of woods, covered graves, except a few visible ones, without inscriptions, mostly markers of black mountain rock. It has been said that there is a graveyard on every hill in Powell’s Fort Valley. This is almost true, for there are many family graveyards, some rather large, and also many hills. This graveyard was the only one found in the bottom lands, at the foot of a high hill where a new one had been lately started, so this was sadly neglected and the old graves will soon be hidden from sight. One crudely carved marker as follows: Anne Ridenour (no dates)
