Deed from Michael Bowman & wife to John Bowman Recorded book R R page 76 rec'd 29 Jany 1839 Know all men by these presents that we Michael Bowman and Sarah his wife of the County of Clark & State of Ohio being heirs and legal representatives of George Neese Deceased late of the County of Shanandoah & State of Virginia for an in consideration of the sum of one hundred & twelve Dollars in hand paid by John Bowman of the County of Rockingham & State of Virginia do hereby remise release and for ever quit claim unto the said John Bowman his heirs & assigns forever all our interest claim and demand estate legal and equatable in & to the lands belonging to the said George Neese at the time of his decease lying in Shanandoan County Va, being the undivided on tenth of said lands belonging to said Deceased In Testimony whereof the said Michael Bowman and Sarah his wife have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals this the fifteenth day of August 1838 Signed in presence of us } Michael Bowman (seal) Abraham Michael } her A.C. McLaughlin Sarah + Bowman (seal) mark State of Ohio Clark County before us Geo Michael & Joseph Underwood two justices of the peace in and for said County personally came the above grantors Michael Bowman & Sarah his wife and severally acknowledged the signing of the foregoing to be their voluntary act and deed for the purposes therein expressed. Sarah Bowman wife of the Michael Bowman being by us examined separate and apart from her said husband and the contents of the deed made known & explained to her declared that she executed the same without the threats or fear of her said husband in Testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and affixed our seals August 15th 1838 Justices of the peace } Geo Michael (seal) Jos. Underwood (seal) The State of Ohio Clark County I James S Halsey Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas of the County and State aforesaid, (the same being a Court of law and of Recorce (sic)) I do hereby certify that George Michael and Jos Underwoodbefore whom the foregoing certificate of acknowledgment purports to have been made and whose names are subscribed to the same are at this date two of the acting Justices of the peace within and for said County duly Commissioned and qualified and that their signatures so appended are genuine.
