Lutz & wife to D Bowman - 1853 - Shenandoah Co., VA This deed, made the 17 day of December 1853 between Michael Lutz & Mary his wife of Clark County Ohio of the one part, and David Bowman of Rockingham County Virginia of the other other (sic) part, Witnesseth, That, in consideration of the sum of thirteen dollars current money, in hand paid by the said David Bowman to the said Michael Lutz the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said Michael Lutz & Mary his wife doth grant unto the said David Bowman all their rights title and interest in a certain piece parsel or tract of lying the County of Shenandoah and state of Virginia on or near the head waters of Mill Creek which tract of land was conveyed to said Michael Lutz, Adam Will & Samuel Overholson (?) by Christian Overholtzer by deed and on Recorded in the Clerk's office of Shenandoah County the said Michael Lutz & Mary his wife being entitled to one third part of the aforesaid tract of land which is hereby conveyed to said David Bowman & adjoining the lands originally belonging to Mathias Miller & George Roller and bounded as follows. Beginning at a black oak ____ & a stone pile the west side of a hill in an old line thence with said old line S 14 W 52 poles to two pines and a chestnut on the brow of a hill thence S 81 1/2 West 187 Poles to two Pines then S 24 W 48 Poles cross bear run to a pine, thence N 25 1/4 W 32 poles to a pine and a red oak a corner to the land of the heirs of Mathias Miller and George Roller then with said Millers line N 10 1/2 W 119 Poles recrossing said run to a pine thence N 42 1/2 E 105 Poles to a pine on the brow of a hill thence S 88 E 60 Poles to a white oak near a Branch about two Poles from the old corner and then crossing the entire tract S 50 1/2 E 158 Poles to the Beginning containing two Hundred acres be the same more or less. And the grantors hereby covenant that they have the right to convey the said real estate to the grantee, that the grantee shall have quiet possession of said premises, that the said premises are free from all encumbrances, and they will warrant generally the property hereby conveyed. Witness the following signature and seal Michael Lutz (seal) her Mary X Lutz (seal) mark Shenandoah County, to wit: I William Noel a Justice of the Peace for the county aforesaid in the State of Virginia, do certify that Michael Lutz whose name is signed to the writing above, bearing date on the 17 day of December 1853 has acknowledged the same before me, in my county aforesaid.
