(Woodstock, Va.) July 29, 1869 We regret to learn that a young child of Mr. David Maphis, living near Mt. Olive, in this county, was found in a spring near the house. It appears that Mrs. Maphis had left the house for a short while, and had left the child in the care of a servant, who had not noticed the absence of the child for some minutes, when search being made, was found in the spring. Every effort was made to resuscitate the child, but to no purpose. It was a severe blow to the parents, especially as it was the only male heir.
