I, Thomas Claig, resident of the county of Shenandoah, State of Virginia, being weak in body, but of sound and perfect mind, considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being of sound mind, blessed be almighty God for the same, do make and publish this, my last will and testment in manner and form following: That is to say, first, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Elizabeth Claig, all the tract of land that I now live upon, lying in Gooney Manor and on Dickey's Hill, during her widowhood and lifetime; also the stock of every kind, viz. horses, cattle, sheep, and hogs; plantation utensils of every kind; also all of my household and kitchen furniture. What debts that I now owe at this time is first to be paid out of the above property. _?_ after her death the above property is to be sold and the proceeds thereof equally divided among all my children. And lastly, as to all the rest, residue, and remainder of my personal estate and goods and chattels of what kind or nature _?_, I give and bequeath the same to my beloved wife, Elizabeth Claig, whom I hereby appoint sole executrix of this, my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In witness whereof I have here- unto set my hand and seal the 30th day of January and in the year of our Lord 1826. Signed and sealed, published and declared by the above named Thomas Claig to be his last will and testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses in the presence of the testator.
