Heinemann Written: 1812 Will of Jarvis Dougherty Made July 11, 1812; Proved March 7, 1814 Will Book H, pg 508 Shenandoah Co., Va In the name of God Amen, I Gervis Dougherty of Shenandoah County and state of Virginia being well in body and of perfect mind and memory, blessed be to God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of this life, I recommend the same into the hands of God who gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in christian manner at the discretion of my Executors hereinafter named, and as touching such worldly goods which it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life, I give and dispose of in the following manner: viz 1st, It is my will and desire, that all my just debts and funeral charges be paid by my Executors and the moveable Estate that I shall die possessed of to be sold at public sale, and the money arising from such sale to be equally divided among my eight children hereinafter mentioned viz: Wm. Dougherty, Sarah Darkins, Phebe Postle, John Dougherty, Elijah Dougherty, Abraham Dougherty, Mary Dougherty and Elizabeth Anderson. To them and their heirs forever, and as my son William Dougherty has not received anything of me as yet it is my will and desire that first of all he be made equal with his brothers and sisters as the receipts they have given will signify, how much each child has received, as it is my desire that all my said children share an equal part of my estate and after all my said children have been made equal, then it is my will and desire that what bonds and notes that remain, not discharged, be collected by my executors, and what money shall be in the hands of my executors, that the said balance of my estate, after all my eight aforementioned children shall be made equal equally divided among my eight children aforementioned, to them and their heirs forever. And lastly, I constitute and appoint David Mintorf and Frederick Mintorf Executors of this my last will and testament, ratifying and confirming this to be my last will and testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 11th day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twelve.
