She was the daughter of the late Guy S. and Ada Blackard Etter. She was a former schoolteacher and retired librarian from Southwestern State Hospital, Marion. She was a member of King’s Grove United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of Evansham Chapter No. 97, Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest R. Ager; one sister, Lucille Newman; and a brother, John S. Etter. Survivors include a sister, Jessie C. Etter of Rural Retreat; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred E. and Kathleen Etter of Rural Retreat, and Col. Hal G. and Joyce Etter of San Antonio, Texas; a niece, Lisa Etter Thompson of Max Meadows; two nephews, Sandy Etter of Tazewell, and Ralph A. Newman of New Port Richey, Fla.; several great-nieces and great-nephews, Amy Ketner of Rural Retreat, Amanda Hagy of Marion, Paul Newman and Jay Newman, both of New Port Richey, Fla.; and a special friend, Cynthia Jones, of Charlotte, N.C. An Eastern Star memorial service was held Thursday evening, Dec. 30, 2004, at Grubb Funeral Home Chapel in Wytheville. Funeral service was held Friday afternoon, Dec. 31,2004, at the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Vince Krauss officiating. Interment was in the West End Cemetery, Wytheville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wytheville Fire Department. Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville was in charge of arrangements.
