Barbary, 76, of York, S.C., died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005. He was born in Chilhowie, Sept. 10, 1928, the son of Minnie Belle Parrish Barbary and John Wesley Barbary and lived in that area until moving to Baltimore, Md., in 1943. There he met his wife of 55 years, the former Lula Marselle Kiser, now of York, S.C. He was a retired dairy executive and children's author. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He graduated from University of Baltimore magna cum laude in 1963 with a degree in business. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He began his career at Sealtest Dairies in Baltimore and with them lived and worked in Chambersburg, Pa., Philadelphia, Pa., and finally at corporate headquarters in New York, N.Y. Later he ran two dairies in Toronto, Canada, and then ended his dairy career after becoming vice-president of A & P Tea Co., and then general manager of dairies for Southland Corporation (7-11) and retired in 1984. During his tenure at Southland Corporation, he received the first Patriot of Fort McHenry Award for his work in raising funds for the restoration of Fort McHenry. LuMar Productions published his children's book, Nikki and Nikol: A Christmas Story, in 1982. Recently he had been working on the development of a comic strip as well as two novels. He and his wife moved to York, S.C. in 1992 after living in Canada, where he came to love the friendly climate and people of South Carolina. He enjoyed meeting his many friends during the course of his days and especially loved playing golf with his best friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his family at their lake house in Marion. He was preceded in death by four siblings. In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Marla Rhea B. and Kevin Carney of Lutherville, Md.; two grandchildren, Leah Claire and Thomas Maguire "Mac" Carney; brother-in-law, Robert Kiser, of York, S.C.; and two sisters-in-law, Congetta Kiser and Lillian McSwain, both of York, S.C. Services were private. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 376, York, S.C. 29745, or Hospice and Community Care of Rock Hill, 325 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, S.C. 29732. The family received friends at the home Friday evening, Feb. 11, 2005. Bratton Funeral Home, Inc. in York, S.C. was in charge of arrangements. o
