He was born in Smyth County to the late Noah and Katherine Ferguson Barr. He was preceded in death by his brother, Grady Barr; two sisters, Joy Miller and Betty Barr; and a grandson, Bradley Keith Barr. He was in the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Alice Carolyn Barr; three sons and daughters-in-law, Davis B. and Betty Barr of Texas, Timothy and Angela Barr of Chilhowie and Michael and Julie Barr of Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Andy Litten of South Carolina; two brothers, Denny Barr of Marion and Karl Barr of Chilhowie; five sisters, Mildred Petri of Georgia, Shirley Johnson of Marion, Phyllis Lee and Glenna Yellenik, both of Pennsylvania, and Bonnie Kelly of Nevada; six grandchildren, Sgt. Christopher B. Barr and wife, Nina, of Germany, Barry Justin Barr of Glade Spring, Tristian Arron Barr and Dillon Tyler Barr, both of Chilhowie, Caitlan Nicole Barr and Dalton Cole Barr, both of Marion; one great-grandchild, Kyah Lynn Akers of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at 8 p.m. from the Bradley’s Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie with the Rev. Bobby Briggs and the Rev. Bill Taylor officiating. Graveside services will be held Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at 2 p.m. from the Mt. Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring. Full military honors will be rendered by the Pope Air Force Base Honor Guard.
