He was married to the late Mary Pearl Osborne of the Broadford/Saltville area. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Roger Mathias of Afton; two granddaughters, Jamie and Jessie Mathias of Afton; two brothers, Arther Shearin and Malvin Shearin and families; three sisters, Louise Criswell, Effie Barnhill and Fannie Ferrie and families. Funeral services were conducted at the Church of the Blue Ridge in Afton, Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, with the viewing. A graveside service was conducted in Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring on Monday, Dec. 13, 2004. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the AMC Hospice Care of the Shenandoah, #64 Sports Medicine Drive, Fisherville, Va. 22939. D.R. Henderson Funeral Home of Saltville was in charge of arrangements.
