A native of Elizabeth, N.J., he was born April 18, 1931, to the late Benjamin and Alice Cheek and moved to Inverness, Fla., one year ago from Berkeley, W.Va. He grew up and attended elementary and high school in Marion. He served 11 years in the United States Navy in the Korean Conflict and retired as the lead foreman of the heating plant at the Pentagon. He was a member and past master of Henry Knox Field Masonic Lodge No. 349 and an affiliate member of the George Washington Lodge, a 32nd degree mason and member of Old Dominion Commandery No. 11, Scottish Rite Valley of Virginia, and Mt. Vernon Royal Arch Chapter 14, all of Alexandria as well as memberships to the Fleet Reserve, VFW, and American Legion Post No. 60 of Berkeley Springs, W. Va. Survivors include one son, Robert R. Cheek of Inverness, Fla.; one sister, Carol Coats of Stafford; three grandchildren, Misty, Agnes and James; and three great- grandchildren, Lillian, Penny and Alena. Burial was held at the Florida National Cemetery in Inverness, Fla. Charles E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory in Inverness, Fla.; was in charge of arrangements.
