Thompson SALTVILLE -- Mr. Charles William "Crossie" Thompson, 74, born March 16, 1928, in Smyth County, Va.,. died Tuesday, Nov. 19 , 2002, at his home in Saltville. He was preceded in death by six sisters, Hattie Harmon, Virginia Henderson, Bess Stumbo, Beulah Sweat, Helen Collins and Liz Sweet. Survivors: his wife, Zella Tolbert Thompson, Saltville; one sister, Billie Robbins, Glade Spring; one brother, Johnny Thompson of the home; three stepsons, Laney Kestner, Rev. Wade Kestner and R.J. Kestner, all of Saltville; two stepdaughters, Eula Caudill, Saltville and Louise Robbins, Chilhowie; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at Henderson Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bobby Collins officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Pineridge Cemetery. Pallbearers will be George Robbins, Dennis Sykes, Daryl Jackson, Ronnie Powers, Jerry Frye, Garland Hogston, Tom Sweet, Kenny Collins, William Stumbo and Rocky Stumbo. Honorary pallbearers and special friends are Allen Cardwell, Big E Eastridge, Lincoln Hunt and Henry Cardwell. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening just prior to the funeral service. The family would like to extend special thanks to Wellmont Hospice, Dr. Swan and Dr. Powers. D.R. Henderson Funeral Home of Saltville is serving the family.
