She was born in Damascus, the daughter of the late Henry E. and Belle W. Diggs. The family moved to Saltville in 1925. After graduation from Saltville High School, she studied secretarial science at Bristol Commercial College. While in Bristol she played piano for the choir of Addilynn Methodist Church in its broadcasts from radio station WOPI. She returned to Saltville as secretary in the gypsum division of Mathieson Alkali Works at North Holston. She later moved to the Saltville Plant of Mathieson where she served more than 35 years as secretary to Ray B. Worthy, a vice president of the company and manager of the Saltville operation, and succeeding plant managers Leonard Bradt, Robert Aebersold, and George F. Comer. She was an active member of Madam Russell United Methodist Church, serving many years as pianist for the junior choir at Sunday evening worship. She was a counselor for the Methodist Youth Fellowship and also taught a youth Sunday school class for several years. Survivors include a brother, Henry E. Diggs, Jr., of Arden, N.C.; and a niece and several nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, in Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol, Tenn., with the Rev. Janet Richardson officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Madam Russell United Methodist Church in Saltville, or to Addilynn Memorial United Methodist Church in Bristol, Tenn. D. R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville is in charge of arrangements.
