He was a life-long resident of Johnson County, Tenn., and was a son of the late John and Minnie Hand. In addition to his parents, three brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. He was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, a member of VFW Post 9830 and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include three sisters and a brother-in-law, Willie Hammons of Abingdon, Hazel Holloway of Damascus and Shirley and Jimmy Rogers of Front Royal; two half-brothers, James Hand of Panama City, Fla., and Johnny Hand of Delaware; five step-brothers, Bob McClure, Bo McClure, Jerry McClure, Dan McClure and Wayne McClure; one step-sister, Dean Hilton; special friends, Dot Reece, Mary Perry, Tony Cress, Bill Jackson and Charles Hand; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon, Jan. 30, 2005, in the Garrett Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Robert Griffin Jr. officiating. Interment followed at Mock Cemetery in Damascus. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203, Vandilla St., Mountain City, Tenn. 37683. The family received friends Sunday afternoon, Jan. 30, 2005, prior to the funeral service at Garrett Funeral Home. Garrett Funeral Home in Damascus was in charge of arrangements.
