He was born in Wythe County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Lawson and Berndine Smith Hanley; and a brother, Colin Hanley. Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Adam and Pearl Hanley of Rural Retreat; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen and the Rev. Kenneth B. Wright of Elliston, Jerilyn and Benny Harris of Washington, D.C., Gayle and William Sparrow of Roanoke, and Pamela and Oliver Sutton of Duluth, Ga.; a sister-in- law, Lynelle Hanley of Roanoke; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at 10 a.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel, Rural Retreat, with the Rev. James H. McDaniel officiating. Interment will be in the Murphysville Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, from 9:30 to 10 a.m. (service time) at the Lindsey Funeral Home. Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat is in charge of arrangements. o
